Directions to the Herreshoff Castle

From Boston/Logan Airport: Route 1-A North, bear right at Route 129 toward Marblehead/Swampscott. Go around rotary and continue on Route 129. After the "Welcome to Marblehead" sign, Route 129 becomes Atlantic Avenue. Stay on Atlantic Avenue until you reach the center of town where the stores are. At "Shubies" store the avenue bears to the left. Take the next right, which is Washington Street, and proceed up the hill. You will see a large red brick building with a clock at the top of its steeple on your right (This is Abbot Hall). Proceed past the building and down the hill where you will have to bear left. Take the first right. This is Darling Street. Travel to the end of this short street and stop at the intersection of Darling Street and Front Street. Look up and you will see the side of the Castle. After making a left turn, you must make a quick right turn into Crocker Park. Pull right into the driveway facing the front of the Castle. The building to the right with the sloping green roof is the Carriage House. Walk between the Castle and the Carriage House and you will find the entrance to the Carriage House on your right.

From the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90): Exit onto Route 128 North (exit also reads I-95 north,). Continue on Route 128 (I-95) for about 25 miles. Exit from Route 128 at Exit marked 25A, Route 114 to Marblehead and Salem. You'll see Northshore Shopping Mall on your left. After exit ramp take a right and move to the left lane. Follow Route 114 signs to Salem and Marblehead. Route 114 travels through Peabody and Salem before it enters Marblehead. Route 114 is well-marked. You will pass through the center of Salem and will see Salem State College on your right. Continue on Route 114 and you will reach Marblehead about a mile or so past Salem State College. Follow 114 which is named Lafayette street and then named Pleasant Street. Keep on Pleasant Street until it ends at Washington Street. Turn right onto Washington Street, and take the next left which will be Darling Street. Travel to the end of this short street and stop at the intersection of Darling Street and Front Street. Look up and you will see the side of the Castle. After making a left turn, you must make a quick right turn into Crocker Park. Pull right into the driveway facing the front of the Castle. The building to the right with the sloping green roof is the Carriage House. Walk between the Castle and the Carriage House and you will find the entrance to the Carriage House on your.

Important: Marblehead has become a fuel-free community. One of the first in the country. We no longer have any gas stations in town. So please fill-up your vehicle on your way into town.
